The short version: Nest & Nourish stores your pantry data on your device by default. If you create an optional account, your pantry and shopping list sync privately to your household through Google Firestore. We don't run ads, we don't use analytics or trackers, and we never sell your data.

What we store on your device

By default, everything you enter into Nest & Nourish — pantry items, quantities, expiration dates, your shopping list, and your app settings — is stored locally on your device. If you never create an account, this data never leaves your device.

Optional account & household sync

You can optionally create an account to sync your pantry and shopping list across your own devices and share them with your household. Accounts are handled by Firebase Authentication, and you can sign up with:

When you're signed in, your pantry items and shopping list are stored in Google Firestore (a Google Cloud database, hosted in the United States) so they can sync between your devices and with the people in your household. This data is visible only to you and to the household members you or your household's owner have explicitly invited — it is never shared publicly or with anyone outside your household.

Household sharing

A household ("nest") owner invites other people by email address. Invited members must sign up or sign in with the invited email address to join. Once joined, all members of a household can see and edit the same shared pantry and shopping list. Removing a member or leaving a household stops that person's access to the shared data going forward.

Barcode scanning

When you scan a barcode to add an item, Nest & Nourish sends only the barcode number to Open Food Facts (openfoodfacts.org), an independent open food database, to look up the product name, category, and nutrition facts. No personal information, account details, or device identifiers are included in that request.

Camera

Nest & Nourish uses your device's camera solely to scan barcodes in real time. No photos or camera images are captured, stored, or transmitted anywhere.

Notifications

Expiration reminders and low-stock nudges are scheduled and delivered locally on your device using your operating system's notification system. We do not use a push notification server, and no notification content is sent to us or to any third party.

What we don't do

Data retention

Locally stored data stays on your device until you delete it or uninstall the app. If you have an account, your synced pantry and shopping list data is kept in Google Firestore for as long as your account exists, or until you remove individual items yourself.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account at any time from within the app. Deleting your account removes your account record and your associated cloud data (including your Firestore sync data and any pending household invites you created). If you're the sole member of a household, that household's shared data is deleted as well; if others remain, ownership transfers to another member so their shared pantry isn't lost. For security, you'll be asked to confirm your password before deletion completes.

Children's privacy

Nest & Nourish is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us at the address below and we'll delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the effective date above. Continued use of the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.

Governing law

This policy is governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the United States, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
